The doorman can be found in security companies. As a rule, they are positioned in the entrance and/or exit areas of the security company’s customers and carry out entrance checks. However, this activity should not be confused with the tasks of a porter, who arranges the transportation of luggage to and from the rooms and opens the door to the entrance and exit – even if this latter activity can also fall to the doorman in some areas such as a bar. Instead, he implements security measures against unwanted persons and keeps damage away from the client’s property. If a crime is committed, it is his job to take the necessary measures.

The field of application of a doorman is diverse. A doorman is usually an employee security guard who is responsible for the safety and comfort of guests or customers in upscale hotels, retail stores, restaurants, jewelry stores, nightclubs, product launches, new store openings, perfumeries, shopping malls (usually in collaboration with the store detective) or any other public place. The scope of a doorman covers a variety of tasks, including

• Security surveillance: a doorman is responsible for monitoring the entrance or exit of the building or location and ensuring that only authorized persons have access. They may also monitor surveillance cameras and other security equipment.
• Guest relations: Doormen often greet guests or customers as they enter the location and help them when needed by carrying luggage or giving directions.
• Door control: Doormen often open and close doors for guests or customers and hold them open on request.
• Parking lot management: Doormen can also be responsible for parking lot management and help guests park their vehicles.
• Conflict management: When conflicts arise between guests or customers, a doorman can act as a mediator or arbitrator to resolve the situation.
